The Mayor's Kidnapping

2015

What if the mayor were kidnapped and his daily life in captivity was broadcasted on YouTube? This premise, an idea from my friend Leandro Borges, emerged around the time of the 2013-2014 protests in Brazil and gave birth to "The Mayor's Kidnapping."

The story was published online, with a small chapter released almost every week. One of the most interesting aspects of the project was audience participation. After revealing that he had the mayor in his custody, the kidnapper conducted polls to decide how the mayor should be treated in captivity. The respondents to these questions were the readers themselves, so the plot and illustrations depended on the answers we received to move forward. Although not every chapter included questions, this process made the production schedule quite tight.

Unfortunately, the project ended unfinished, and the story's website no longer exists. As a result, there are few records of its existence outside of my drawer and the scripts I wrote with Leandro. Despite its incomplete status, "The Mayor's Kidnapping" remains a work I am proud of and consider worthy of my portfolio.
